The rupee strengthened by 36 paise to 82.24 against the US dollar in early trade on Friday amid a positive trend in the domestic equity market.
At the interbank foreign exchange market, the rupee opened at 82.28 against the dollar and rose to 82.24, registering gains.
The rupee had closed at 82.60 against the American currency on Thursday. The dollar index, which measures the strength of the US currency against other currencies, fell 0.13 per cent to 104.88.
Global benchmark Brent crude futures were down 0.39 per cent at $84.42 a barrel.
