Volodomyr Zelenskyy, the president of Ukraine, has criticized Russian military for releasing the largest barrage of missiles and drone explosions on his country’s soil in almost a month.
The enormous pre-dawn airstrikes earlier on Thursday, according to Zelenskky’s evening video message, were “another attempt by the terrorist state to wage war against civilization.”
At least nine civilians, according to Ukraine, were killed in the onslaught that included missiles fired at Kyiv and other sections of the country lost power.
According to Ukrainian officials, those killed were locals from the northeastern city of Kharkiv, closer to the frontlines in the central Dnieper region, and the western region of Lviv.
Russian soldiers left the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power facility, which they had taken over a year prior, to run on backup generators for a number of hours.
Also, six Kinzhal hypersonic cruise missiles were fired by Russia, according to Kyiv, which was unable to retaliate.
Throughout its 12-month invasion, Russia has consistently denied intentionally striking civilians. According to the Russian Defense Ministry, a “massive retaliatory strike” was launched in retaliation for a recent cross-border operation.
The Russian ministry asserted that it had damaged and destroyed Ukrainian drone bases, railroads, and manufacturing and maintenance facilities.
Moscow also acknowledged using dagger-shaped Kinzhal missiles in the attack on Thursday.
The missile barrage was described as “devastating” by the White House, which added that America will keep giving Ukraine access to air defense systems.
